‘Hungry Eyes' and 'All By Myself' singer Eric Carmen dies at 74

’70s and ’80s hitmaker, Eric Carmen , has died at the age of 74.

According to statement released by his wife, Amy , Carmen passed in his sleep due to unspecified causes. "It is with tremendous sadness that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Eric Carmen," she posted on social media as well as Carmen's official website . "Our sweet, loving and talented Eric passed away in his sleep, over the weekend. It brought him great joy to know, that for decades, his music touched so many and will be his lasting legacy."

The Cleveland native first saw success in 1970 as part of musical group, Raspberries , the group, best known for hits like “I Wanna Be With You,” “Go All The Way,” “Overnight Sensation (Hit Record),” and more. The group parted in 1974 leading Carmen to a solo career, which took him to new heights.

One year after the split, Carmen released his first solo, self-titled album which included hits, "All By Myself," "Never Gonna Fall in Love Again" and "Sunrise." Success dwindled in the  years following, but he returned with purpose in 1985 reaching even greater accomplishments with songs including "I Wanna Hear It From Your Lips," "Make Me Lose Control," and "Hungry Eyes," which was featured on the Dirty Dancing soundtrack.

Carmen’s music has stood the test of time finding ways to resurface in pop culture decades past its initial release. Examples of its timeless nature include Celine Dion ’s 1997 cover of “All By Myself”; “Go All the Way” featured in 2014 on Guardians of Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 1 soundtrack and “Almost Paradise,” which he co-wrote, becoming the theme to the popular ABC reality series, Bachelor in Paradise from 2014 to present.
