The legal battles in the Abbott administration took a blow this past week as several judges ruled against or delayed several Texas lawsuits. Governor Greg Abbott started Operation Lone Star after President Joe Biden came into office and some moves have brought legal challenges.

In his attempt to protect Texas, Governor Abbott has employed the Texas National Guard, Department of Public Safety, and gained support from several State governors to help protect the border.

On the third anniversary of Operation Lone Star, Governor Abbott wrote of the gains of the mission according to a press release.

    • 503,800 illegal immigrant apprehensions
    • more than 40,400 criminal arrests
    • seized over 469 million lethal doses of fentanyl

The Biden administration started taking an active role to help border states but President Biden waited until almost two years into his term. Last year, Biden passed an executive order to allow migrants to use the CBP app to request asylum.

The Abbott administration has challenged many of Biden’s actions. The Biden administration has done the same for Governor Abbott’s actions as well.

In recent challenges, federal judges delayed or ruled in favor of the Biden administration.

On March, 8, U.S. Texas Judge Drew B. Tipton ruled that the Biden administration program to allow up to 30,000 migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela to enter the country was legal according to Yahoo News.

On March 11, Texas Judge Francisco Dominguez ruled that Attorney General Ken Paxton could not shut down the Annunciation House, an El Paso non-profit according to KFAA. Paxton accused the non-profit of helping illegal immigrants.

On March 12, the U.S. Supreme Court delayed Texas from implementing Senate Bill 4 allowing the police to arrest illegal immigrants according to CBS News.

Despite these setbacks, Governor Abbott continues to secure the border. In a recent post on X, Abbott wrote:

Texas National Guard engineers continue to install strategic barriers in El Paso & along the Texas-Mexico border.
While President Biden undermines & attacks our border security efforts, Texas will keep using every tool and strategy to secure the border.

Several hundred people have protested over the passing of Senate Bill 4.

Do you think there will be more legal battles over the border this year?
