Point Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church celebrated Black History Month throughout February.

Mount Olive Attendance Center Principal Otonya Walker was recognized on Feb. 11 and received the Outstanding Achievement Award for her performance in the school, community and church.

Walker is the first black female graduate of Mount Olive Attendance Center. She gave an encouraging talk about her experience and thanked the church family for the recognition.

She has been at the Mount Olive Attendance Center over 15 years.

On Feb. 25, Dr. Felecia D. Nave was recognized and presented an award.

Dr. Nave returned to her alma mater, Alcorn State University, as the 20th and first woman president in Alcorn’s 150-year history on July 1, 2019.

“It has been a humbling experience to come back and be given the opportunity to take care of something that was so important to me as many have poured their life’s work into, and make sure that the institute is positioned well and respected in the state and across the Nation.

Nave thanked the Point Pleasant Church family, her family and friends for pouring into her upbringing and success and for the award.

“I have had a wonderful journey and I am looking forward to the next chapter.”

Three new members also joined the church, Justin Nave, Kennedy Nave and Jonathan Nave.
