GONZALES, La. (BRPROUD) — Bull riding, barrel racing and bullfighting are coming to Ascension Parish on Saturday, March 16. Bulls, Bands and Barrels is taking over the Lamar Dixon Expo Center, 9039 S. St. Landry Ave.
Doors are scheduled to open at 5:30 p.m. with the event kicking off 30 minutes later.
Organizers said that up to 30 bull riders will aim for an 8-second ride. Cowgirls will also “compete for the fastest time as they navigate barrels in a heart-pounding cloverleaf pattern.”
During freestyle bullfighting, athletes will face bulls in what organizers call “an adrenaline-pumping intermission show that’s a true battle of man versus beast.”
Tickets on sale now for 2024 Angola Prison Rodeo There will be other entertainment for guests to enjoy at the event.
Josh “Porkchop” Garrick, aka, “The Biggest Little Man in Pro Rodeo ,” will provide entertainment along with country music artists Wyatt Flores and Red Clay Strays.
“‘This ain’t your grandpappy’s rodeo,’ the trademark BBB slogan, encapsulates the spirit of the BBB experience,” said Garrick.
Venn Johns, a professional bull Rider (PBR) athlete, will also attend the event. According to organizers, he is an American Ninja Warrior athlete, professional bull rider, black belt in Brazilian jiu jitsu and karate, former U.S. Gymnastics Federation team member and former professional MMA fighter.
Two-time PBR world champion Chris Shivers will be at the event and will take part in the event presentation.
