Save Our Canyons is a local non-profit organization that works to protect the Wasatch mountains. The organization has been vocal in opposing the proposed Little Cottonwood Canyon gondola and works tirelessly to protect public lands, local watersheds, recreation access, and more in the Wasatch range.

Save Our Canyons recently hired a new Executive Director. The Instagram post announcing this appointment read:

"🌟We’re thrilled to introduce our new Executive Director, Spencer Shaver!

Since he first arrived in Utah, he felt the pull of the Wasatch, propelling him toward opportunities, experiences, and slope angles that this Minnesota-born backcountry enthusiast did not know were possible before he got here.

The people, the places and the community that make the canyons of the Wasatch some of the best public land in the world have kept him coming back, driving toward trailheads at all hours of the night and early morning to chase new adventures, wild failures and everything in between. He made the Wasatch and public lands here his home.

Spencer has worked alongside hunters, anglers, and passionate advocates across the country to design and build advocacy organizations and campaigns which protect public lands and water for future generations. For his work, Spencer received the Sigurd F. Olson award from the Backcountry Hunters & Anglers in 2022, recognizing outstanding effort conserving rivers, lakes and wetland habitat.

He is excited to see what we can do as a community to protect the wildness and beauty of the Wasatch Mountains. What we can accomplish together with a shared vision for future generations here and a shared passion for a place we all love and cherish.

Protecting the Wasatch is vital to our community's continued ability to recreate in all seasons in the places we know and love. Wishing Spencer all the best as he dives into the work!
