Texas has a new junior waterbody record for largemouth bass. Stetson Davis, from Tuttle, Oklahoma landed a 13.31-pound largemouth bass. His catch shattered the previous junior waterbody record by over five pounds.

Stetson was fishing with his dad, who also holds a waterbody record, on J.B. Thomas Reservoir when he landed his epic catch. Stetson is just eleven years old. His dad, Brodey Davis, holds the position of the seventh-biggest largemouth bass in Texas. Brodey caught a 17.06-pound largemouth bass in 2022 on O.H. Ivie. His largemouth bass is the O.H. Ivie waterbody record.

The younger Davis submitted his catch to the Toyota Shareluker program and the Angler Recognition Program. Natalie Goldstrohm, Toyota ShareLunker program coordinator, said, “We are excited to recognize Stetson’s accomplishments through the Toyota ShareLunker Program and Angler Recognition Program. Getting young people hooked on fishing through these programs is important to creating a lifelong love of the sport.”

Stetson recalled, “We didn’t have much luck at the start but around 9:20 a.m. we spotted her. I made multiple casts her way, but she wouldn’t bite, and it was a little frustrating. I finally placed the bait close enough to where she saw and then she bit. I set the hook and instantly my dad went to go and grab the net. When the fish came to the surface, we knew it was a double-digit. It was a fairly quick fight, and we were able to secure it in the net and get it into the boat.”

Congratulations to Stetson and we hope to hear many more amazing adventures from this young man.

What strategies do you suggest to catch double-digit largemouth bass? Let us know in the comments and thank you for reading Texas Fishing News.
