    2024-03-17

The Savannah Bananas came to Baton Rouge and their fans answered their call, playing in front of three straight sold out crowds at LSU's Alex Box Stadium this weekend. This was their first time playing in Louisiana and a college stadium and you could tell the ecstatic crowd of over ten thousand fans who packed the house, dressed in their favorite Bananas gear.

The Savannah Bananas were founded in 2016 by Jesse and Emily Cole. They are an independent professional baseball team that play "Banana Ball" in Savannah, Georgia and across the country. Banana Ball has since become the fastest and most entertaining game in sports. With its fast-paced rules and emphasis on continuous play, Banana Ball strips away the often criticized lulls and lengthy pauses typical of traditional baseball, delivering a high-octane and entertainment-packed game that keeps both players and fans on their toes. Banana Ball has 11 unique rules. The most notorious rule is that if a fan catches a foul ball, it counts as an out.

Savannah Bananas Umpire Vincent Chapman, who has been with the team for 3 years, said this is "just a dream job for him, getting to put smiles on thousands and thousand of people's faces daily." Chapman said his favorite thing from playing for the first time in Baton Rouge was the people and that "the energy of crowd was electric." He also got to enjoy some good cajun and fried seafood and bread pudding at Mike Anderson's while in town. He said to those attending a game for the first time, "The number one rule is just have fun. Banana Ball has something going on every time, everywhere you look, whether dancing, signing, players in the crowd signing autographs, giving roses to little girls or me twerking behind home plate. There is just so much going on, at all times, it's just awesome!"

The Savannah Bananas also use their popularity to bring awareness to a very important cause. Their charity, Bananas Foster was established in 2020 with a misson dedicated to bringing families together by celebrating the foster care community, while educating and inspiring others to get involved.

The Savannah Bananas will continue their 2024 World Tour through mid-October, wrapping up on "Bananaland at Sea," a 4-night cruise from Miami to the Bahamas.
