CENTRAL ILLINOIS – After recent deadly crashes along Central Illinois interstates, Illinois State Police are sharing tips to stay safe. This week there were two deaths on I-74 and I-155.

In 2021 — McLean, Marshall, Peoria, Tazewell and Woodford Counties had a total of five fatalities from crashes on the interstate. That number increased to six in 2022.

UPDATED: Victim in deadly I-155 crash identified

At this time IDOT does not have the official count for 2023.

“Speeding is a major contributing factor towards serious injury and fatality crashes,” said ISP Trooper Melissa Albert-Lopez. “So, of course we out here reminding the public to slow down, follow that speed limit, wear your seatbelt. And again we’re reminding people when it comes to road rage, don’t engage.”

She also said that Illinois is a “True Limit State” so even one mile over the limit is considered speeding.
