Ariana Grande and 'eternal sunshine' have the biggest week of any album in 2024

While we’re very aware we’re just only in the first quarter of the year, a win is a win is a win, and Ariana Grande is winning.

Achieving her sixth No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart with eternal sunshine , Ari’s previously claimed the top spot with Positions in 2020, 2019’s Thank U, Next , 2018’s Sweetener , My Everything in 2014, and Yours Truly in 2013.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units, compiled by Luminate, and for the list dated March 23, Ari simply couldn’t be beat with 227,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending March 14. Marking the largest week of 2024 for any album, and surpassing the debut of Ye and Ty Dolla $ign’ s Vultures 1 , which peaked at 148,000 on the chart dated February 24.

BTW - as thoroughly explained by Billboard , “units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album.”

Now knowing that, of eternal sunshine ’s 227,000 units earned in the tracking week ending March 14, 148,000 are SEA units (equaling 194.92 million on-demand official streams of the set’s songs), 77,000 are album sales (the most for that week), and 2,000 are TEA units.

Fronted by “yes, and?,” eternal sunshine ’s lead single was a massive hit from the jump, debuting at No. 1 , and and remaining on the Hot 100 since. To follow up, coinciding with the album’s release, Ariana opted for "We Can't Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)” as a second single. Another strong contender to top the list, which will be released Monday Morning.
