Schlereth has no problem with Cowboys' offseason: Don't spend A-plus money on B-minus players

There are plenty of familiar faces in new places after the first week of free agency, but the Dallas Cowboys are one of the teams that have more or less stood pat. The Cowboys have stood pat while the rest of the NFC East has been making moves around them. However, that may not necessarily be the worst thing in the world.

NFL analyst Mark Schlereth of the Audacy original podcast “Stinkin Truth” explained why he’s perfectly fine with the Cowboys’ philosophy this offseason.

“The Cowboys are a good football team,” Schelerth said (28:30 in player above). “Tell me the last team that you can remember that won free agency that actually was worth a s–t during the regular season. So this may be an addition-by-subtraction deal.”

Schlereth opined that the Cowboys might just like their group and want to continue forward with them.

“Like we’re not going to spend A-plus money on B-minus players to bring them into this organization. We like what we got and we’re just going to focus on the guys we got,” he said. “I’m not mad at that kind of philosophy as an organization. I’m not going to sit there and look at the Dallas Cowboys and go ‘Boy, they’ve really screwed up.’”

While it would be easy for Schlereth to join the droves of fans and media questioning the Cowboys’ lack of moves this offseason, he’s agreeing with Dallas’ decision.

“It’s easy for me to pile on the Cowboys but I agree with the philosophy,” he said. “Most of the time when you spend big-time money on free agents, more often than not those free agents don’t really pan out the way you would hope or anticipated they would.”

The Cowboys have won the NFC East in two of the last three seasons and are looking to repeat as division champions for the first time since the 1990s.
