Starting next Monday, the Clackamas Education Service District opens its doors to the public for the eighth annual Clackamas ESD Regional Art Show.

The event showcases the visual artwork of middle school and high school students from all nine school districts in Clackamas County. Almost 200 students participated in this year’s regional art show with 23 schools represented.

“The art show is a highlight of the year for all of us at Clackamas ESD,” said Larry Didway, Clackamas ESD superintendent, in a press release. “Every year, I am further amazed at the level of artistic talent students of all ages exhibit, and the depth of emotion conveyed in so many of their works. This show is a true celebration of the power of art to move us, activate us and inspire us.”

On Monday, March 25, the show opens to the public with access to the student artwork both online at clackesd.org/2024artshow and in-person from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Clackamas ESD office at 13455 SE 97th Ave..

This year’s art show includes many visual art mediums including painting, drawing, digital art, photography, sculpture, ceramics and multimedia. The submissions for the show are selected by school art teachers from the nine school districts and submitted to the show for review, judging and awards.

Awards include “Best in Show,” “Staff Choice” and “Art Speaks,” as well as grade level awards for high school and middle school students.

High school winners receive varying levels of scholarships from Pacific Northwest College of Art, art supplies and gift cards from Venvivo Art Studios and the chance to showcase their art in the Lakewood Center for Arts youth exhibit during the annual Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts.

Middle school winners receive art supplies and gift cards from Venvivo Art Studios and the opportunity to show their work during the Festival of the Arts as well.

Last year’s winners included Estacada High School’s Carly Suo, who won “Best in Show” for her ballpoint pen drawings and portraits titled “Terror.” Suo also won the 10th grade first-place honor. Wilsonville High School’s Stephanie Yang and Annabelle Northwang tied for the 12th grade first-place honor for Tang’s painting “Lingering” and Northwang’s sculpture “Green Dragon.” The 11th grade first-place honor went to West Linn High School student Linrou Liufor her painting “Straw Hat” and the ninth grade first-place honor went to WLHS freshman Anwesha Chowdhury for her watercolor painting “Psychedelic.”

Awards will be presented on Thursday, April 25 at the Clackamas ESD headquarters. The event is sponsored by PNCA, Clackamas Community College, Venvino Art Studios and the Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts.

“This is a joyful community event, and we could not pull it off without the dedicated partnership of dozens of middle and high school art teachers, who spend so many extra hours curating student work to exhibit in our show,” Didway continued in the release. “The continuous support of our four generous sponsors is a huge bonus, allowing us to honor award-winning students with meaningful prizes. I am so proud to be part of a community that places such a high priority on cultivating and celebrating students’ artistic talents.”
