RHEA COUNTY — On Friday, May 3, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., registration will be held for kindergarten children entering school during the School Year 2024-25. Parents or guardians should register their children at the elementary school served by the buses in your community. Elementary schools holding registration are: Frazier (775-7854), Graysville (775-7850), Rhea Central (775-7842) and Spring City (365-6451)

All students entering Kindergarten in the fall of 2024 will be screened for vision, hearing, academic, and physical readiness during the first 10 days of school, not during the summer months. All children must be screened at the beginning of Kindergarten.

Following are the requirements for registration:

    1. Kindergarten children must be five (5) years old on or before August 15, 2024. (TCA 49-6-2-1(6)(3)) Students must attend Kindergarten before they can enter first grade.

    2. Hospital records or birth certificates must be provided. Applications for birth certificates may be picked up at the Rhea County Health Dept. School personnel will copy these records to keep on file to show compliance with Tennessee’s laws for entering school.

    3. Permanent Tennessee Certificate of Immunization and School Entry Medical Examination Form, accurately completed, must be provided. Immunizations and physical examinations may be given by authorized personnel at Rhea County Health Dept. or by parent’s private physicians. Please take your present immunization form to registration. New Immunizations requirements and forms have been issued by the TN Dept. of Health and are now in effect. Please check with your health care provider to be sure that your child meets these new requirements.

4.Social Security Cards. These are not required but would be extremely helpful for computerized attendance and testing records. Applications may be obtained by calling 1-800-772-1213 and requesting that an application be mailed to the home address of parents/guardians.

    5. The stub of an April or May utility bill—such as electric, cable or gas, showing your correct residence address, not a P.O. Box. This will be proof as to which school your child should attend.

If all required information is not provided at registration, the child’s name will be placed on a waiting list and will then be taken on a first-come, first serve basis when requirements are met. Each school will send its overflow to the nearest school that has an opening.
