Since announcing her bold genre change-up last month, the 32-time GRAMMY winner has already made history in the genre as the first Black, female artist ever to snag a number one spot on Country charts. While honored by the impact, Beyoncè shared the creation of this album stands for so much more as she hopes it helps to erase the lines of race within musical genres.

“I feel honored to be the first Black woman with the number one single on the Hot Country Songs chart,” she shared in a statement. “That would not have happened without the outpouring of support from each and every one of you. My hope is that years from now, the mention of an artist’s race, as it relates to releasing genres of music, will be irrelevant.”

The 42-year-old continued on to disclose that her inspiration was fueled by a negative experience with the Country genre, which prompted her to research the history behind it and blaze a trail of acceptance.

“This album has been over five years in the making,” she shared. “It was born out of an experience that I had years ago where I did not feel welcomed… and it was very clear that I wasn’t. But, because of that experience, I did a deeper dive into the history of Country music and studied our rich musical archive. It feels good to see how music can unite so many people around the world, while also amplifying the voices of some of the people who have dedicated so much of their lives educating on our musical history.”

Unity isn’t something she just spoke about, Beyoncè is putting it into action with the album as she promised collaborations with some brilliant artists who I deeply respect.” Who those artists are remains a total secret along with pretty much all other details surrounding the album, but knowing they’ll be there definitely adds a layer of anticipation to an album that’s already captivated the world before its release.

“I have a few surprises on the album, and have collaborated with some brilliant artists who I deeply respect,” she wrote. “I hope that you can hear my heart and soul, and all the love and passion that I poured into every detail and every sound... This ain’t a Country album. This is a ‘Beyoncé’ album. This is act ii COWBOY CARTER , and I am proud to share it with y’all!"

While we anxiously await to hear what Cowboy Carter sounds like, Bey has shown us what it looks as she released the cover art. The photo features Bey sitting on a white stallion in a red, white and blue ensemble featuring chaps and a cowboy hat with a large flag in her hand. Clearly, she’s ready to ride into Country music like the queen she is.

act ii: Cowboy Carter arrives March 29.
