Richard Simmons opens up about skin cancer diagnosis

Richard Simmons updated concerned fans on his health status recently.

On his social media profiles, Simmons had published a post which left fans concerned as it was about death. In a follow-up , he clarified and wrote about appreciating life. He also touched on how a blemish on his face moved him to see a doctor.

"Mirror mirror on the wall what’s that blemish which is so small? There was this strange looking bump under my right eye. I had a tube of neosporin which I would put on in the morning and the evening….it was still there. It was time to call my dermatologist," the fitness guru wrote. "I sat in his chair and he looked at it through a magnifying mirror. He told me he would have to scrape it and put it under the microscope. Now I am getting a little bit nervous."

Simmons continued, writing how the doctor then let him know he had cancer.

"I asked him what kind of cancer and he said Basel Cell Carcinoma. I told him to stop calling me dirty names. He laughed," he joked.

Simmons went on to explain how he then went to see a specialist and the subsequent surgery he had to remove the mark on his face. The first procedure didn't entirely remove the problem area and he had to go back in once again.

He concluded his post open-ended after the second surgery, "… to be continued."

Representatives of Simmons told ET he is "100 Percent" healthy.
