DRIPPING SPRINGS  — The Dripping Springs softball team hosted Lake Travis during spring break on Tuesday, March 12 and the Lady Tigers were looking to rebound from a 3-2 loss the night before to Westlake, with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning. The Cavaliers (5-1) and Tigers (4-2) failed to score in the first inning, but Lake Travis’ bats got hot in the top of the second inning, scoring five runs. Lake Travis scored one run in the top of the fourth inning and managed to keep Dripping Springs off the board in all, but the fifth inning. Freshman McKenna Riley, one of seven freshmen on the roster, went 3 for 3 at the plate and scored a run thanks to an RBI by senior Haiden Anderson in the bottom of the fifth inning. In the same inning, freshman catcher Lorelei Gamble’s two run homer over the left field fence cut the Cavs lead to 6-3. The Tigers failed to push a run across the plate in the final two frames and got the 6-3 loss. Freshmen, including Tatum Green, accounted for all five Lady Tiger hits in the game. Lake Travis did its damage in the fifth inning, but credit Anderson, Dripping Springs’ starting pitcher who pitched seven innings and struck out six, and the Lady Tigers defense for preventing additional damage by keeping the Cavs off the board for five innings. The Lady Tigers will host Anderson High School at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 22 and then Austin High School at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 28.
