Swift Rescue: First Responders Save SUV Driver, Passenger From Flooded Nassau County Road

    2024-03-25

JERICHO, N.Y. - First responders rescued the driver and passenger of an SUV after heavy rainfall caused significant flooding on North Broadway near Jericho Turnpike late Saturday afternoon.

Following hours of relentless downpours, the Long Island region experienced an inundation of up to 3-4 inches of rain as storms swept through the area on Saturday. At around 4:30 PM, the persistent rainfall led to significant flooding in the northbound lanes of North Broadway beneath the Jericho Turnpike overpass, resulting in an SUV and its driver becoming stranded in the standing water.

Workers from the New York State Department of Transportation were seen clearing the accumulated water while all northbound lanes remained closed. Traffic was temporarily redirected onto the eastbound Jericho Turnpike ramp from Broadway, causing delays in the area.
