Warm weather last week offered a taste of spring but winter is far from over. This weekend brought a new storm cycle to the Wasatch. Alta Ski Area, located at the top of Little Cottonwood Canyon, has gotten 19 inches in the past 24 hours. This brings Alta's season total to 525 inches and the base depth to 164 inches (view Alta's weather dashboard here ).

I honestly found the return of winter to be a little jarring. While I was out in the backcountry earlier this morning in the midst of heavy snow and cold temperatures, I found myself longing for the sunny, bluebird sky day of spring skiing I had here a couple of weeks ago. But it's hard to deny that the Wasatch could use a snow refresh. Strong winds and hot sun created some tough conditions this last week and a fresh layer of powder is just what we need to cover those surfaces.

It's looking like the snow will continue throughout the week so this could be a good chance to get some more powder turns, savor the feeling of winter, and it could set us up well for later season spring skiing if more lines get filled in.
