New York City Mayor Eric Adams was planning to visit the Texas border. He was planning to join other immigration leaders for a tour of the border area of Del Rio.

Due to safety concerns, the trip was canceled.

The city has seen over 180,000 migrants arrive in New York. This also includes the 43,500 migrants that Governor Greg Abbott sent to the city.

Last year, New York spent $1.45 billion supporting migrants.

Adams has continued to ask for financial support from the Biden administration

A New York City Hall Spokesperson said according to ABC 7:

"Due to safety concerns at one of the cities we were going to visit in Mexico flagged by the U.S. Department of State we have decided to pause this visit at this time," "We hope to continue our partnership with these nationally-recognized Latino leaders and organizations as we look for concrete solutions to resolve the crisis at the border."

Last week Adams said in a statement according to the New York Post:

“Finding solutions to national issues requires national collaboration, and I am eager to meet with Sister Norma Pimentel, her team, and other leaders to discuss our work in New York City and explore new ways to collaborate with leaders in cities across the country.”

Adams also shared his thoughts about the border trip last week.

In an interview on “The Reset Talk Show Mayor Adams said according to a press release:

I'm headed to the border to the border on Saturday night because I'm meeting with national immigrant leaders who all applaud what we have done and they [inaudible] stated that no one in the country, New York City is doing and they want to applaud what we're doing and rally around us and have other municipalities come and see what we're doing to duplicate what we're doing.”

It is unknown if Mayor Adams will make his second trip to Texas. Last year, Mayor Adams visited El Paso, Texas according to KTSM.
