Special election called for Anoka County commissioner seat

    2024-03-25

A special election has been called by the Anoka County Board to fill the vacant District 1 seat caused by the resignation of Matt Look. District 1 includes all of the cities of Ramsey and Nowthen, most of St. Francis and a large part of Anoka.

The candidate filing period begins May 21 and ends June 4.

If more than two candidates file, then a special primary election will take place Tuesday, Aug. 13, with the top two vote-getters moving on to the special election Tuesday, Nov. 5, which is when the presidential and state general election takes place.

But if there are no more than two candidates, then a special primary won’t be necessary and the special election will be Aug. 13.

The winner will serve the rest of the unexpired District 1 commissioner term. The seat is scheduled to be on the November 2026 ballot.

Look resigned following his appointment as East Bethel city administrator.
