After breaking two records for passenger travel, 2024 is off to a flying start for John Glenn International Airport.

The local airport reported February 2024 was the busiest month for passenger travel in local history. The 629,000+ passengers that flew through Columbus shattered the previous record that was set in 2020.

“More nonstops are offered now than ever before,” said Joseph R. Nardone, President & CEO of the Columbus Regional Airport Authority. “As a result, we’ve seen a notable increase in passenger numbers, setting new records that underscore the trust and preference travelers place in Columbus Airports.”

These trends can be found in March, too. During the week of March 18, the airport reported an estimated 196,000 passengers, which broke the previous record set in July 2019.

This volume of travelers shows a need for upgrades, said airport officials. And, a state-of-the-art $2 billion terminal is in the works, planned to open in 2029.
