Texas Deploys Hundreds of Specially Trained Troops to El Paso Border

Nearly 200 soldiers arrived in El Paso yesterday to bolster Texas' ability to hold the line and secure our border.

Troops have arrived via an Air National Guard plane as part of Governor Greg Abbott's strategy to intercept or turn back illegal migrants. The force is made up of trained National Guard members. El Paso Mayor Oscar Leeser expressed continued cooperation with Border Patrol and Customs but noted that the National Guard deployment wasn't requested.

Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen has ordered a second deployment of the state's National Guard and patrol to the US-Mexico border. Ten Nebraska State Patrol troopers will head to El Paso for a two-week deployment in mid-April.

A federal appeals court has extended its hold on a law (S4) that would allow police to arrest migrants suspected of illegally crossing the border and impose criminal penalties.

Social media comments varied, with some calling for the closure of all southern borders in Texas while others thanked Governor Abbott for securing the borders.
