Recognizing and celebrating our doctors

National Doctors’ Day, which is observed each year on March 30, is a time to recognize the contributions of physicians to people’s lives and well-being and to the communities they serve. The first Doctors’ Day was observed on March 30, 1933, in Georgia and commemorated the first use of anesthesia, which had been done nearly 90 years prior. In 1990, the House and Senate introduced legislation to establish a national day of recognition. Following overwhelming approval by the United States Senate and the House of Representatives, on Oct. 30, 1990, President George Bush signed the measure.

Now, 91 years after that first observation day, Doctors’ Day is celebrated to recognize the commitment and dedication of 1.1 million+ practicing physicians across the United States.

As a long-time practicing obstetrician/gynecologist, I know the immense commitment required to care for and serve others every day and night.
