The super PAC backing independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy has said it raised over $2 million this week after the candidate announced his running mate.

American Values 2024, the main outside group supporting RFK Jr. in his long-shot bid for the White House, shared with The Hill that it raised $2.1 million at a fundraiser on Tuesday after Kennedy announced Nicole Shanahan, a tech attorney and entrepreneur, would be his running mate.

PAC head Tony Lyons shared exclusively with The Hill that there were around 60 donors at the outside group’s fundraiser and that those present were all in on Kennedy.

“They were clearly energized by RFK Jr’s VP pick Nicole Shanahan,” Lyons said. “We raised $2,120,000, which proves that attendees see that Mr. Kennedy now has an increasingly clear path to the presidency.”

He went on to share with the outlet that many had previously shared they liked him but “felt he couldn’t win.

“With 70 percent of Americans wanting an option other than Biden and Trump, more and more voters are beginning to understand what Mr. Kennedy would do as president; they are listening to his ideas and his policies and they like what they hear,” Lyons added.

Many have commented on Kennedy’s campaign, with some Democrats arguing that he is only going to play spoiler to President Joe Biden, the presumed Democratic nominee, taking would-be voters from the incumbent.

Former President Donald Trump, the presumed Republican nominee, commented on this on Wednesday, saying that Kennedy was “great for MAGA” in a post to Truth Social .

“He is Crooked Joe Biden’s Political Opponent, not mine. I love that he is running!” Trump wrote.

On polls that offer Kennedy, Biden, and Trump as candidates in a hypothetical election, Trump leads with 41.5%, followed by Biden at 39.1% and Kennedy at 9.9%, according to The Hill/Decision Desk HQ polling index .
