Cohasset public utilities commission sees name change

    2024-03-28

Cohasset public utilities commission sees name change; now called Cohasset Public Utilities Board (CPUB)

There was a 7:05 p.m. public hearing on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, during the regular Cohasset City Council meeting, to amend the ordinance to change the public utilities commission name to Cohasset Public Utilities Board.

The commission approved the name change back in January 2024.

“Pretty easy one…just a formality,” Cohasset Zoning Officer Tony Valtinson said.

“Just some technical issues, with calling it a commission, when it is really not a commission,” Cohasset Mayor Andy MacDonell stated.

“They wanted the change, because they do not deal with money,” Councilor Terry Bartz said.

    In other business:

Council opened their meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Item D, New Shop Storage Building, was tabled until the March 26, 2024 meeting. Otherwise, the agenda was approved as read.

EDA meeting was cancelled for March 2024.

Approved the Itasca County Historical Society Gambling License.

“They are looking for a local veterans group to sell liquor at the event,” Mayor MacDonell said.

“They typically ask us for a donation,” Cohasset Finance Director Max Peters said.

“So are we letting them use the hall at no cost?” Bartz asked.

    “Sure,” MacDonell said.

Approved the 2024 Industrial Park mass grading payment request to Casper Construction for $131,049.89, with a remaining balance of $285,950.11.

Approved Peters to attend the 2024 MCMA Annual Conference.

Approved the one-month rental on the drum mower.

The City Office and shop will be closed March 29, 2024 in observance of Good Friday. The Annual Board of Appeals and Equalization meeting will be held at 9 a.m. April 24, 2024 at the Cohasset City Hall.

Cohasset Security Officer Dean Scherf had an update.

“I have been getting a lot of calls of people having problems with squirrels, “Scherf said. “Ordinance says we can’t shoot weapons in City limits. My suggestion would be to trap them or live trap them.”

“Thank you Dean, good advice,” Mayor MacDonell said.

Approved claims in the amount of $140,754.51 and acknowledged the February 5, 2024 CPUB minutes. Approved the February 26, 2024 city council minutes.

All council members were present, and there was no resident input.
