Three people were taken to the hospital following a 5-vehicle accident Wednesday evening, March 27, in Mt. Airy.

Emergency crews responded to the crash shortly at 5 p.m. at the intersection of GA 365 and Demorest-Mt. Airy Highway.

According to the preliminary Georgia State Patrol accident report, Lauren Wykle of Lula was driving a Jeep Wrangler north on GA 365, approaching the intersection. Troopers say she was following too closely. As vehicles in front of her slowed for the red light, the Jeep rear-ended a Chevrolet Impala driven by Vicki Farivar, 65, of Mt. Airy.

The impact caused the Impala to rear-end a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck driven by John Ferguson, 28, of Mt. Airy. The Tacoma rear-ended a Ford F-150 pickup driven by 77-year-old Charles Wright of Toccoa.

The Jeep traveled into the left lane and rear-ended a Subaru Forester driven by Stella Wooton, 72, of Clyde, North Carolina.

Ambulances transported Farivar and her passenger, 63-year-old Janice Barrett of Mt. Airy, to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville with suspected serious injuries. Ferguson was also taken to NGMC Gainesville with possible minor injuries.

The others involved in the wreck, including a passenger in the F-150, 73-year-old Judy Wright of Toccoa, had either minor injuries or complaints of injuries but were not transported.

The wreck stalled traffic during the evening commute. The State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT) is investigating the crash. Charges are pending until the investigation is complete.

All because she was following too close. I see this everyday. It is SOOOO dangerous but it seems that everyone is always in a hurry.

Hold her accountable. Her actions demonstrated no regard for the other drivers on the road. Sending prayers for protection, comfort, healing, and hope in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ 🙏
