Around 12:50 a.m., the Los Angeles Communications Center started receiving calls of a wrong-way semi-truck/tractor combination traveling eastbound in westbound lanes of Interstate 210 near Lake Avenue in the city of Pasadena. The vehicle was reported traveling at 65-70 miles per hour, according to Sgt. Andrew McAllister with the CHP’s Baldwin Park area office.

CHP Baldwin Park Office also received multiple 911 calls of the wrong-way semi eastbound in a westbound lane on the 210 Freeway at Huntington Drive in the city of Monrovia.

The CHP was able to locate the semi on the 210 Freeway at Buena Vista in the city of Duarte when a patrol unit noticed the vehicle coming at him the wrong way in the carpool lane.

The CHP ran a traffic break and successfully stopped the vehicle before any accidents could occur, said McAllister. The semi traveled approximately 10 miles the wrong way on the 210 Freeway before being stopped.

The driver was detained without incident, and the CHP was able to move the semi off the freeway, according to McAllister.

There were no reports of any accidents and McAllister believes the semi was traveling in the carpool lane the entire time.

The driver was cited and released at the scene.
