NASHVILLE — State Rep. Ron Travis and Mrs. Laura Travis recently hosted Rhea Central Elementary School fifth-graders to tour government offices in Nashville.

On March 21, over 100 teachers, students and parents enjoyed a day of education by exposure touring the Capitol, State Library and Archives, Bicentennial Mall, and the State Museum. They also participated in a mock vote in the chamber of the House of Representatives, met Gov. Bill Lee, State Sen. Adam Lowe, Secretary of State Tre Hargett and spent much of the day with State Rep. Ron Travis.

“This tour program is such a blessing to our hearts,” said Laura Travis. “The smiles on the students and chaperones are what it’s all about! Ron and I are humbled and eager to share our experiences with our most valuable asset, our children. We believe with responsibility comes privilege and with privilege comes responsibility. We want to be good ambassadors to District 31 constituents, and we are very thankful for all of the support given to us. Beginning with the first tour in 2013, we try to encourage, teach and engage our tour guests. We want to inspire people and plant good seeds. We share with the teachers all of the resources we have learned that will help them in and out of the classroom. It’s personal to us and we try to give our best and make learning fun.”

Let’s Tour 31! hosts not only schools but many other groups as well, such as senior citizens, clubs, professional groups, etc. Remaining tours for this tour season are three schools from Rhea, one from Van Buren, two from Bledsoe and two from Sequatchie counties.
