‘Never Forget Our Cowards and Weaklings!’ Trump Fumes at Republicans Leaving House — Narrowing GOP’s Majority

Former President Donald Trump lashed out at Republicans who are retiring from the House — trimming the GOP’s already slender majority in the chamber.

In a post to his Truth Social platform Sunday, the former president took aim at Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) – who has said he will not reconsider his decision to leave Congress, despite a reported plea from House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA).

“Never forget our cowards and weaklings!” Trump wrote. “Such a disgrace”

Gallagher’s exit leaves the GOP in a precarious position. The Wisconsin congressman is set to step down on April 19. After that date, Republicans are likely to hold a razor-thin 217-214 advantage in the House. That means that the GOP can only afford to lose one Republican vote in order to pass any measure.

Per Wisconsin law, if Gallagher had resigned prior to April 9, a special election would have been held to fill the seat. Now, the seat will remain vacant until the new Congress is seated in January 2025.

Gallagher’s departure comes on the heels of Rep. Ken Buck’s exit, which also put a dent in the GOP majority. Buck stepped down earlier this month — citing his disenchantment with the party and former President Donald Trump .

“I am not going to lie on behalf of my presidential candidate, on behalf of my party,” Buck told NewsNation on March 3 . “And I’m very sad that others in my party have taken the position that, as long as we get the White House, it doesn’t really matter what we say.”
