Seattle saw an influx of tourism dollars in the past year, breaking records with a total of $8.2 billion spent by visitors.

Tammy Canavan, the President and CEO of Visit Seattle, highlighted the importance of small businesses in the tourism industry, which make up 80% of the sector. She emphasized that the significant amount of money spent by tourists has a positive economic impact on the local community.

The preliminary data from Visit Seattle indicated that 37.8 million visitors came to Seattle in 2023, a 9% increase from the previous year. These visitors spent $8.2 billion in the city, contributing to a 12.8% increase from the previous year.

Additionally, tourism supported 65,486 jobs in Seattle and King County in 2023. During MLB All-Star Week and a weekend featuring Taylor Swift concerts, downtown hotel revenues reached record highs, indicating the city's appeal to tourists.

Looking ahead, Seattle is preparing for the FIFA World Cup in 2026, which Canavan describes as a monumental event that will bring unprecedented levels of tourism to the city. King County Executive Dow Constantine emphasized the region's growth and ongoing efforts to ensure the prosperity of both residents and visitors.
