MSNBC Guest Argues the Justice System is ‘Really Imbalanced’ in Favor of Trump — Who’s Currently Facing 88 Criminal Charges

A former Democratic congresswoman appearing on MSNBC seemed to agree with the popular Republican talking point that the U.S. has a “two-tiered” criminal justice system. Only, the ex-congresswoman believes that despite former President Donald Trump currently facing 88 criminal counts, the deck is actually stacked in his favor.

Appearing Saturday on MSNBC’s Ayman, Donna Edwards — a former Democratic congresswoman from Maryland — argued that Trump is benefitting from a “really imbalanced” justice system. Edwards made her observation in response to MSNBC host Ayman Mohyeldin noting that Trump has not been disciplined for sharing an image on social media which depicts President Joe Biden tied up in the back of a pickup truck.

“It appears that at every turn, he is just allowed to do whatever he wants and get away with it without any reprimand,” Mohyeldin said.

“It does seem that the scales of justice are really imbalanced when it comes to Donald Trump,” Edwards replied. “That there are things that he’s engaged in, for example, that for any other criminal defendant would have landed them back in jail, in lockup with their bail revoked.”

Trump, in 2023, was slapped with 91 criminal counts in four different indictments — with a potential penalty of over 700 years in prison if convicted and sentenced to the maximum on all charges. Three counts have since been dropped in the Georgia election interference case, but — despite complaints from some on the Left about the former president successfully employing stall tactics to delay the various trials — few have argued that a criminal defendant who is potentially facing centuries behind bars is getting highly preferential treatment from the justice system.

Nonetheless, the ex-congresswoman went on to argue that former President Trump is let “off the hook” for sharing images such as the one with President Biden in the pickup.

“Kathy Griffin, if she had posted that pickup truck with Joe Biden would have had the Secret Service visit her,” Edwards said. “But Donald Trump seems to get off the hook.”
