The annual Empty Bowls fundraiser for the Pike County Salvation Army is set for 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Friday at the fellowship hall of Bush Baptist Church.

Donn Kidd, Pike County Salvation Army service center manager, said the Empty Bowls Luncheon is a reminder of hunger throughout the world and how blessed we are here a home to have so many who have such giving hearts.

“Without kind, loving and giving hearts, there would be no Empty Bowls Luncheon,” Kid said.

“Without the Empty Bowl Luncheon, there could be those among our neighbors and friends who know what it’s like to know real hunger.”

When the word, hungry, is mention the thoughts are, most often, of those on television in some distant place. However, Kidd said there are hungry people right here in Pike County. Many people, especially the elderly, who have, too often, to the choice between buying their medication and purchasing their medications. Hunger is no stranger to them.

Kidd said those who support Empty Bowls 2024, can know that they are making a difference in the lives of others, including those right here at home.

The $20 donation to Empty Bowls includes a delicious soup bar with a large selection of homemade soups, (dine in or take out) homemade desserts, tea or water and a handmade empty clay bowl to take home as a reminder of those who are hungry each day.

Empty Bowls 2024 will feature singer/musician Ed Whatley from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. A recently added featured attraction is potter Greg Amann who will throw a pot while sharing the Potter’s Story.

Come and make a difference in someone’s life.
