Lizzo clarifies that she's only quitting 'negative energy' and not the 'joy of my life'

Remember on Monday when we talked about Lizzo announcing “I QUIT” on Instagram? Well, now it’s Wednesday and she’s cleared a few things up.

In the very direct message, which actually arrived over the weekend, Lizzo expressed her feelings about being unfairly critiqued. Writing, "I'm getting tired of putting up with being dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet. All I want is to make music and make people happy and help the world be a little better than how I found it," she wrote. "But I'm starting to feel like the world doesn't want me in it. I'm constantly up against lies being told about me for clout & views… being the butt of the joke every single time because of how I look… my character being picked apart by people who don't know me and disrespecting my name.”

Adding, "I didn't sign up for this s***," and then concluded with, "I QUIT✌🏾”

While some contemplated the message to simply mean she was quitting Instagram or social media in general, some believed Lizzo's meant she’s done with all of it, including her music career.

Well, as Lizzo still remained active on social media after the statement, posting promo photos for her shapewear brand Yitty, it left many confused about what exactly she claims to quit.

Taking to IG once again to enlighten us on what she meant with a video post, Lizzo explained, “I just need to clarify — when I say I quit, I mean, I quit giving any negative energy attention. What I’m not gonna quit is the joy of my life, which is making music, which is connecting with people.”

“I know I’m not alone,” she continued. “In no way, shape or form am I the only person who is experiencing that negative voice that seems to be louder than the positive… I’m going to keep moving forward, I’m going to keep being me.”
