This weekend, a major music festival will take over the Lamar Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales, La.

Rock The Country, a two-day event making its way across the U.S., will feature co-headlining sets from country music star Jason Aldean and musical jack-of-all-trades Kid Rock. One of the main goals of the traveling show is to bring a major concert event to less populated cities.

“We kind of came with the concept to go into more underserved areas, entertainment wise, smaller towns,” Kid Rock said. “We want everyone to come, everyone is welcomed, you know, have the angle that this is for people who work hard and love America.”

“The commerce that we bring to these towns and all the local business, and everybody hopefully thrives,” he continued

The rapper/singer who first came to prominence in the late 1990s with his multi-platinum album Devil Without A Cause said he’s got goals in mind for when he makes his way into the Pelican State.

“…if can find a good crawfish boil, play some music and get done with work and have a couple of beers and hang out with the fans. It’s going to be a good night,” he said.

He also said fans can expect to hear him run through his catalog of hit songs.

“They can expect great music, celebrating America. Don’t mean to sound like a broken record but my show is going to be a culmination of everything of the last 30 years that I think we have hit marked and done best at,” Kid Rock said.

He also hinted at a surprise opener who will take the stage before his set.

“I dare say it’s somebody nobody is thinking, thinking that they would be at this environment, this place,” Kid Rock said. “I’ll tell you this much, it’s not a musician.”

The festival takes place April 5 and 6. For more information on Rock The Country and for tickets, visit www.rockthecountry.com/gonzales.
