    High school roundup: Lady Chiefs blank TKA

    SEYMOUR — Kennedy Dishner threw a four-hit shutout and Hadley Ward drove in four runs on four hits to lead Cherokee to a 13-0 win over King’s Academy on Monday in nonconference softball action.

    The Lady Chiefs scored six runs in the fourth inning and five in the seventh to cruise to the victory. Cherokee had 15 hits in the game. Ward was 4 for 5 with two runs and four RBIs. Dishner was 3 for 5 with three runs and two RBIs. Kaylee Cinnamon was 1 for 4 and drove in two runs. Kasie Bowman, Jada Davis, Shelby Helton, Keircee Manis and Campbell Owen each had one hit for Cherokee.

    The Lady Chiefs had nine extra base hits in the game — a home run by Ward, a triple by Owen, three doubles by Dishner and one double each for Bowman, Ward, Cinnamon and Helton.

    Dishner scattered the four hits across seven innings, walked no one and struck out seven.

    David Crockett 19, Cherokee 0

    JONESBOROUGH — David Crockett jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the opening frame and never looked back en route to a 19-0 win in five innings on Tuesday in Jonesborough.

    Crockett outhit Cherokee 18-6 and took advantage of five Lady Chiefs’ errors.

    Kaylee Cinnamon and Kennedy Dishner each had two hits, while Hadley Ward and Kasie Bowman had one each.

    Dishner took the loss in the circle, allowing all 19 runs (only five earned) on 18 hits with one walk and one strikeout.

    Cara Wilson picked up the win for Crockett. She scattered six hits across five innings with no runs, two walks and nine strikeouts.

    Weather permitting, the Lady Chiefs are scheduled to face Hampton on Thursday, April 5, and Jefferson County on Friday, April 5. They’ll travel to West Ridge on Monday, April 8, before returning to conference play when they host Volunteer on Tuesday, April 9, at 5:30 p.m.

    Grainger 6, Volunteer 4

    RUTLEDGE — Grainger scored four runs in the sixth inning and held off a seventh-inning Volunteer rally to beat the Lady Falcons 6-4 in District 2-3A softball action on Monday.

    Grainger collected 11 hits and took advantage of two Volunteer errors.

    Grainger’s Alison Byrd earned the win. She allowed four runs (two earned) on eight hits, walked two and struck out three. Volunteer’s Katelynn Trent took the loss, giving up six runs on 11 hits with one walk and three strikeouts in six innings of work.

    Rylee Smith was the only Lady Falcons’ player with multiple hits. She was 2 for 3 with one RBI. Timber McLain, Addyson Fisher, Zetta Smith, Jenna Thomas, Averi Weston and Sydney New each had one hit for Volunteer. Addyson Fisher and Zetta Smith each drove in a run.

    Byrd homered for Grainger.

    The Lady Falcons’ game at Claiborne was postponed from April 2 to April 26. They were scheduled to host Grainger on Thursday, April 4, (weather permitting) and travel to Cherokee on Tuesday, April 9, for a pair of Twin Lakes Conference matchups.
