Is the Term Limit Bill for Hawaii Lawmakers Within Reach

    2024-04-06

The term limit discussion happens every year. Some bills are up for discussion more than others. With the election around the corner, some would argue that the term limit discussion would be a good time during an election year.

Here is the description of the bill.

    Hawaii HB 1703:

Proposes a constitutional amendment to limit the terms of members of the legislature to a maximum of twelve years in the house of representatives or senate, or both, for terms beginning on or after the general election of 2024, with a grandfather clause for those already in office.

Search online, and you will find an article from the Star-Advertiser about term limits for the Hawaii legislature. Their article is under a paywall, so only the title and the first sentence appear. But it’s easy to deduce that HB 1703 might not pass the 2024 legislative session.

Star-Advertiser: “Letter: Hawaii legislators must be subject to term limits”

Looking closer at HB 1703, you can see no planned discussion for HB 1703 - term limits.
