    Community yard sale

    The New Hope United Women in Faith will hold a community yard sale at 2098 New Hope Road, today from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Outside spaces are $10; inside spaces are $15. Tables and chairs are $10. The rain date will be April 13. Contact: 264-3387 or 264-3923.

    2nd Dog Festival

    The Perquimans Chamber of Commerce will host its second annual Dog Festival at the Perquimans County Recreation Center Sunday, April 13, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

    History for Lunch

    Museum of the Albemarle will host its monthly History for Lunch program Wednesday, April 17, at noon. Dr. J. Timothy Allen, professor of humanities at Strayer University, will be the presenter for the program, “Early Coastal North Carolina Quakers and Slavery.” He will discuss early North Carolina Quakers’ attitudes toward slavery and how and why they progressed from being enslavers to advocating for manumission.

    TarWheel Cycling Event

    The 29th annual TarWheel Cycling Event will be held on a scenic, flat, countryside course through Pasquotank and Perquimans counties Saturday, April 20, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Riders start at Dog Corner Park at 600 Southern Avenue in Elizabeth City and have the option of taking either a 33-, 64-, or 100-mile ride.     Children’s Festival

    The Chowan-Perquimans Smart Start agency will host the annual Children’s Festival at the Perquimans Recreation Center Saturday, April 20, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

    Pig on the Perquimans

    Camp Cale will host Pig on the Perquimans, an annual fundraising event, Saturday, April 27, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Event will include lunch served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., a barbecue cooking competition, a bake sale, silent auction, and vendor fair.

    Spring Garden Show

    The Extension Master Gardener Volunteers of Chowan, Gates and Perquimans counties will hold their annual Spring Garden Show at the Perquimans County Recreation Center at 310 Granby St., Hertford, Saturday, April 27, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The show features vendors and exhibitors marketing garden-related goods and services, a children’s garden for activities, raffles, an Ask a Master Gardener booth, and a plant sale. Proceeds go toward the Katherine G. Shook Master Gardener Scholarship fund. Admission is free.

    Albemarle Chorale

    The Albemarle Chorale will present “A Woman’s Voice: Music by Women” on Sunday, April 28, at Edenton United Methodist Church in Edenton and again on Sunday, May 5, at the First United Methodist Church in Elizabeth City. The program will showcase music written by women spanning the years from classical to contemporary. omen Both concerts begin at 4 p.m. Admission is free; donations are appreciated.

    Perquimans Outdoors

    The Perquimans County Tourism Development Authority will sponsor the program, Perquimans Outdoors, at the Perquimans County Recreation Center, May 17-19
