MENOMINEE — The Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association unveiled its selections for the 2024 girls All-U.P. basketball teams on Friday, and a pair of Menominee standouts were amongst those chosen as the best ballers that the Yoop has to offer.

Senior Anna Axtell capped off a sterling prep career by garnering Division 1-3 First Team honors, while Coduti, a sophomore, collected Special Mention (receiving two or more votes for Second Team).

Axtell, Menominee’s omnipresent guard, became just the fourth Lady Maroon to reach 1,000 career points after averaging 20 points, 8.1 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 4.3 steals per game, all team-highs.

Just for good measure, Axtell set two new Menominee High School records, resetting the single-season scoring mark with 520 points and breaking Erin Barrette’s standard for steals in a season with 94.

Axtell, who also paced the Maroons in field goal percentage (42) and free throw percentage (79.6), finished her four-year career with 1,054 points.

Coduti, the Robin to Axtell’s Batman, put together a stellar sophomore campaign in which she was second on the team in scoring with 9.3 points per game while hauling in 6.3 rebounds.

Carney-Nadeau senior Grace Maule seized a spot on the Division 4 Second Team, while teammates Mariska Laurilla and Kelsie Smith were both Honorable Mention.

Stephenson’s Adriana Ruleau and Melissa Johnson also garnered Honorable Mention.

Negaunee senior Ella Mason walked away with three pieces of hardware after being named the Division 1-3 Player of the Year and U.P. Miss Basketball, in addition to nabbing a spot on the All-U.P. Dream Team.

Gladstone’s Lillie Johnson, West Iron County’s Danica Shamion, Escanaba’s Keira Maki and Ishpeming’s Jenna Maki and Jenessa Eagle round out the Dream Team.

Jenna Maki seized Division 4 Player of the Year after helping lead Ishpeming to the MHSAA Division 4 State championship with a 73-54 victory over Kingston.

The Hematites were the unanimous choice for Division 4 Team of the Year, as was Ryan Reichel, who guided Ishpeming to a 28-1 record en route to being named Division 4 Coach of the Year.

Negaunee (26-2) earned Division 1-2 Team of the Year honors, while Bark River-Harris (21-3) was chosen as the Division 3 Team of the Year.

The UPSSA voted Negaunee’s Mike O’Donnell as the Division 1-3 Coach of the Year.
