Texas Builds 100 Miles of Border Fence - Biden Admin Wants it Gone

Texas has installed 100 miles of razor wire at the Mexico Border - and the Biden Administration wants it out of the way:

"We do not consider concertina wire to be effective. It impairs Customs and Border Protection's ability to do its job." -U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas

That opinion is not shared by Texas Governor Greg Abbott:

“I have to applaud our National Guard for stepping up and laying down more than 100 miles of razor wire. It is an effective barrier that denies illegal entry." -Texas Governor Greg Abbott

The dispute between Texas and the Biden Administration over the border fencing has been ongoing since last year and reached a flash point in January when Texas seized control of Shelby Park in Eagle Pass. The Border Patrol complained the razor wire Texas was stringing along the Rio Grande as part of "Operation Lone Star" blocked its access to the river.

Texas and the Biden Administration have been arguing their positions in and out of court since then. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas complained to reporters about the dispute on Friday:

"We think that responsible governance requires people in positions of authority to communicate, coordinate and collaborate with one another, and the deliberate refusal to do so, in an effort to sow chaos, is not responsible governance." -U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas

But Governor Abbott isn't backing down. Instead, he's touting the accomplishments of "Operation Lone Star:"

Since the launch of Operation Lone Star, the governor says it has led to "over 506,500 illegal immigrant apprehensions and more than 41,200 criminal arrests, with more than 36,700 felony charges. In the fight against the fentanyl crisis, Texas law enforcement has seized over 471 million lethal doses of fentanyl during this border mission."

The governor says Texas has also transported:

    • Over 12,500 migrants to Washington, D.C. since April 2022
    • Over 41,000 migrants to New York City since August 2022
    • Over 33,700 migrants to Chicago since August 2022
    • Over 3,400 migrants to Philadelphia since November 2022
    • Over 17,500 migrants to Denver since May 18
    • Over 1,500 migrants to Los Angeles since June 14
