    Hawaii Drivers: Will Car Insurance Premiums Increase

    Just when you thought the cost of living in Hawaii couldn’t get any higher. Think again. If HB 1539 passes, many Hawaii drivers will see their car insurance premiums increase. Here is an excerpt of HB 1539.

    HB 1539:

    Increases fines for violations of certain traffic laws and required motor vehicle insurance minimums.

    Also, 3 out of 10 drivers pay the minimum required car insurance. Here are the minimum coverage from Hawaii News Now:

    • Current minimum coverage for injuries: $20,000
    • The proposal is to increase the minimum coverage to $50,000 and then to $75,000 in three years.
    • Current minimum property damage coverage: $10,000 to $20,000 to $40,000 in three year
    • Current minimum property damage coverage: $10,000 to $20,000 to $40,000 in three years

    According to Hawaii News Now, car insurance premiums could increase by $175 - $200 annually to what a current Hawaii driver pays today.

    Final Thoughts

    Hawaii drivers will pay more car insurance premiums if HB 1539 passes and the Governor signs the bill.
