    Outreach efforts offer food, meal service

    Several organizations in the area offer regular food distributions and meal service. Upcoming events include:

    The Benevolence Food Pantry at The Memorial Baptist Church, 1510 S.E. Greenville Blvd., provides boxes and bags of food including fresh and frozen meats 1-3 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month. Call 714-7373 for information.St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Food Pantry, 401 E. Fourth St., Greenville, is open from 1-3 p.m. on Thursdays serving the entire community. Parking is available behind the church on Third Street. Call 752-3482.Word of Truth Anointed Ministries 7227 Stantonsburg Road, Farmville, operates Shepherd’s Food Pantry from 1-6 p.m. every Friday offering fresh vegetables, meats and other supplies. To volunteer or for more information call Sandra at 252-341-9949 or visit wordoftruthanointedministries.org.Ayden Christian Care Center, 4106 West Ave., a nonprofit food pantry, is open by appointment from 9-11:30 a.m. on the first, second and fourth Fridays of the month. Second and third Fridays are for home deliveries to shut-ins. The agency serves people 55 and older, the disabled and assists in emergencies. Call 746-2995 and visit aydenchristiancarecenter.org.St. Peter’s Developmental Center, 1295 E. Mumford Road, Greenville, distributes food boxes 9-11 a.m. on on the second and fourth Saturday. Call 325-4162 for information.The St. James United Methodist Church Food Pantry, 2000 E. Sixth St., Greenville, distributes bags of fresh produce and baked goods along with bags of nonperishable food such as canned meat, vegetables, fruit, beans, cereal, and pasta starting at 9 a.m. on the second and fourth Saturday. Call 752-6154 for information.The St. Vincent de Paul Society will provide food bags curbside at St. Peter Catholic Church, 2700 E. Fourth St., Greenville, from 11 a.m. to noon on April 16. Food is distributed every other Tuesday.Greene County Interfaith Volunteers, 412 Kingold Blvd, Snow Hill, offers a food distribution to families in need at 10 a.m. on the first and third Thursday of each month. Clients should call 747-1090 to register. Volunteers are needed to lift 30-pound boxes and place them in cars and to do intake from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesdays.Catholic Charities operates a food bank in Greenville along with disaster services, immigration services and services. The pantry is located at 2780-B Dickinson Ave. Call 355-5111 or Visit www.CatholicCharitiesRaleigh.org for more information.The JOY Soup Kitchen, 700 Albemarle Ave., Greenville, serves meals between 10:30 a.m.-noon Mondays-Fridays. Evening meals are served from 5-6 p.m. Tuesdays-Thursdays. For information call 561-7519.The Community Outreach Soup Kitchen at 3492 S. Walnut St. in Farmville serves hot meals from noon until 1 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The kitchen relies on donations and volunteers.
