Gas prices likely to vary as oil cost rises

Gas prices once again moved more expensive over last week, rising 5 cents, on average. The Tennessee gas price average is now $3.20 which is 12 cents more expensive than one month ago but 10 cents less than one year ago.

In Blount County, the average price per gallon was $3.07 on Monday, April 8, according to data from AAA — The Auto Club Group.

“The roller coaster at the gas pump continues this week with a 5 cent increase in our state gas price average,” said Megan Cooper, spokeswoman for AAA. “With recent changes in the oil market, we’re seeing renewed upward pressure on oil prices.”

Drivers, she said, can likely expect a wide range of prices across the state in the coming days as prices begin to normalize. “Ominous overseas news” is partly to blame for the spike, the release states.

In Tennessee, 67% of gas stations have prices below $3.25, making the state the seventh least expensive market in the nation. The lowest 10% of pump prices are $2.97, while the highest are $3.52.
