Following online reports that Superman may feature Ultraman as the main antagonist that the Man of Steel has to fight, Gunn took to Threads to assure fans that’s not the case. Rather, Nicholas Hoult ’s Lex Luthor will serve as the main villain, as was previously expected.
“The primary protagonist of Superman is, shockingly, Superman,” Gunn wrote. “The main villain of Superman is, shockingly, Lex Luthor. I don’t know where all the stuff is coming from that it’s something other than this. There are so many stories coming out every day it’s difficult to deal with and everytime I strike something down I’m giving it attention. So, I’ll say again, don’t believe anything unless you see it HERE (& why would you want to know everything before the movie comes out anyway?)”
Responding to a comment saying “I’m just ready to see Superman,” Gunn also provided an update regarding how far along the movie was into filming.
“And I’m almost ready to show it to you (even though we’re probably only 18% or so through it),” he said .
