Return to Golden Age with an orchestra and beer!

Vintage Parlor Orchestra returns to Creston Brewery with a bright and sunny program that celebrates Springtime.

Two nights of classical music and brews are on the calendar for Friday, April 12 and Saturday April 13, 7:30-9:30 p.m.

Since it’s inception in October 2018, VPO has produced 19 programs around the West Michigan area by getting orchestral music out of the concert halls and into the community. The orchestra started as an enhancement to a Halloween party at Mangiamo. Ghouls, ghosts, and other costumed creatures performed in the mansion’s parlor, and as fate (and a whole lot of hard work) would have it, a star was born that night, and the band plays on!

Program: Fanny (Mendelssohn) Hensel (1805-1847) German Overture in C major with Maddy Peters as Guest Conductor; Frederick Delius (1862-1934) English, On Hearing the First Cuckoo in Spring; Cesar Franck (1822-1890) French Symphonic Variations, faturing Audra Erb on Piano.

Last November, Grand Rapids Magazine interviewed Tom Pike, the creative force behing Vintage Parlor Orchestra. As bad luck would have it, a performance we were scheduled to attend to capture photos of Pike in action was canceled due to Covid-19. On March 1, the CDC dropped its 5-day Covid isolation guidelines . Now that’s something to celebrate!
