Lafayette, Calif. -- Mike Moran has worked for the City of Lafayette for more than 26 years. He oversees and manages the capital improvement and development review engineering team, the city-wide maintenance team, and the library facilities team.

He started as an Assistant Engineer and was promoted to Public Works Director in 2015 and again in 2018 to Director of Engineering and Public Works.

“Working in Lafayette is like working in a vacation destination,” says Moran. “It is such a beautiful City. When I started with the City, the streets were in very poor condition, so I knew I had plenty of work ahead of me.”

Under Moran's leadership in the last year, Lafayette has improved the City's streets by using more than 2,000 tons of asphalt to fix potholes and added miles of paved pathways.

“I enjoy working for Lafayette as the small staff allows me to wear multiple hats and to work directly on projects with residents,” he continues.

A typical day for Moran looks like this: sorting through and forwarding or responding to more than 100 emails each day. Reviewing or writing staff reports for Commissions or the City Council. Checking in with staff regarding the design and construction of maintenance and new infrastructure projects.

Moran also checks in on the City’s Public Works maintenance crew regarding landscaping, irrigation, road and building repairs, as well as other routine maintenance projects throughout the City. He also fields requests for new traffic signs, road improvements, and/or infrastructure requests from City residents and the City Council.

“Throughout my career, I have had the pleasure of interacting with amazing residents and business owners in Lafayette,” he continues.

Moran earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Engineering (Department of Civil Engineering) from California Polytechnic University at San Luis Obispo, graduating in 1991. He has been a Registered Professional Civil Engineer in California since 1997.

He is a person who values his community and enjoys participating in various off-duty activities which include coaching local youth sports teams, serving as a deacon at his church, and participating in short-term missions and community cleanup days. Moran is also actively involved in several school and community volunteering and fundraising programs.
