The Utah Avalanche Center (UAC) ended regular season forecasts on Sunday, April 14th. For those who ready the daily forecast most of the winter, this serves as a pretty big sign that the seasons are changing... but it doesn't mean that skiing is over or that avalanches are no longer a risk. It's not out of the question that April and May will bring more snow to the Wasatch. It's also highly likely that temperatures will get hot. As conditions change, it's important to stay heads up about ongoing avalanche danger.

The UAC will continue to serve as a resource for local avalanche information. Here's what they said at the end of their last forecast: "[After April 14th], we will issue updates with any snowfall in the Salt Lake zone. We will issue updates in other zones with significant weather events as needed. We will continue publishing any observations through the rest of April as well. Have a great spring, have fun, and stay safe!"

The UAC really is a critical part of the Wasatch skiing and riding community. Their work is instrumental to helping ensure that roads can stay open throughout the winter, that we can all travel safely to ski areas across the state, and that we all have as much information as possible to help us make decisions about where to travel in the backcountry. Thanks, UAC!
