    Park Center track and field gets 2024 season started

    Park Center High School hosted an eventful first track and field meet last week, welcoming Parnassus Preparatory School and DeLaSalle High School to Pride Stadium April 9.

    Tymon Groves and Landon Jones finished sixth and seventh in the boys 100-meter run with times of 12.29 seconds and 12.37 seconds, respectively, followed by Deion Dower and Jakius McCluskey-Millner in 10th and 13th. Camron Carr led the way in the boys 200-meter run, finishing second with a time of 24.79. Jones and Leroy Saye were next up in fourth and fifth places, with times of 25.20 and 25.67.

    David Krolnik finished third in the boys 800 with a time of 2:22.51, while Blake Beaver led the Pirates in the 1600 meter with a third-place finish and time of 4:57.18. Camar Blades earned five points for Park Center with a first place finish and time of 52.36. In the boys relays, Park Center earned first in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 48.04 and second in the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:44.96.

    Shamere Chatman placed third in the girls 100-meter run with a time of 13.48, with Crystal Nehwah and Jaliyah Diggs in fifth and sixth. Chatman was at it again in the 200-meter run, finishing second with a time of 27.66. Sophia Tounkara finished third in the girls 400 meter with a time of 1:13.83.

    Benjamin and Claire Nelson placed second and third respectively in the 100-meter hurdles. Maya Woods and Nelson finished second and third in the 300-meter hurdles as well.

    Park Center earned first in the girls 4x100-meter relay with a time of 51.76, while the team also earned second in the girls 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:58.72.

    The Pirates were competitive in the field as well, with several top finishes. In girls shot put, Armani Brewer-Meehan, Martha Huebner and Caidence O’Rourke placed second through fourth with distances of 32 feet, 3.5 inches, and 26-2.5, and 25-9.75 respectively. Manuella Adokpo finished top of the girls discus standings with a distance of 76-5. Teammates Brewer-Meehan and O’Rourke finished third and fourth with 70-7 and 68-4.

    Abigail Egerstrom was one of two girls pole vaulters to reach the 6-6 mark, earning nine points for the Pirates. Three Park Center girls finished as the top three in the girls long jump. Diggs finished first with 16-4 and 10 points. Shynika Chatman was next with 16-3 and Breanna Benjamin reaching 16-0 for third. Nelson placed fifth and Genesis Corral Gallarzo tied for sixth. Benjamin continued a positive day with a first place finish in the girls triple jump, hitting a mark of 33-9.

    Carter Opbroek and Dylan Pham earned points in the boys pole vault. Opbroek reached the 5-6 mark for eight points, while Pahm reached the 5-0 mark for 5.5.

    Dakagar Johnson finished fourth with five points from a discus mark of 73-11. Saye placed seventh in the boys long jump, earning two points with a mark of 15-10, while Benjamin Boeshans threw for 19-2.75 in boys shot put. Boeshans also hit 45-6 in discus.

    Other results

    Park Center were at it again on April 12, this time competing at the Armstrong Invitational. Blake Beaver earned 11th in the boys 1600-meter run.

    Ronald Brown earned seventh for Park Center in boys long jump with a distance of 17-9. Shynika Chatman topped the standings for the girls 100-meter run with a time of 12.69 in first place. Shamere Chatman also earned seventh. The latter also earned fifth in the 200 meters.

    Claire Nelson earned fourth in the girls 100 meters hurdles with a time of 17.21. Brenna Benjamin was sixth. Maya Woods earned fourth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 50.86.

    Park Center earned third in the girls 4x100-meter relay with a time of 51.31. The team also earned eighth in the 4x200 relay. Shynika Chatman and Brenna Benjamin earned second and third in the long jump for Park Center with distances of 15-9 and 15-7. Benjamin also earned second in the triple jump with a distance of 34-10.

    For neighboring Champlin Park, Alvin Thomas and Aaron Briggs earned impressive finishes in the boys 100-meter run with times of 11.27 and 11.44. Thomas also earned eighth in the 200 meter.

    Benjamin Lapcinski earned second in the boys 400-meter run with an impressive time of 53.51. Champlin Park’s top finisher in the 800 meter was William Maher, who earned fourth place and a time of 2:05.50. Salman Mohamed finished third in the boys 1600-meter run with a time of 4:30.70. Charles Hibbs earned second in the 3200 meter with a time of 9:47.61.

    Kyle Erickson earned second in the boys 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16..08.

    The Rebels won the 4x100 and 4x800 boys relays with times of 44.34 and 8:22.97 respectively.

    Jayi Wilson earned second for the Rebels in the girls 100 meter with a time of 12.82. Makayla Shipman earned first in the 200 meter with a time of 26.22. Olivia Osonowo earned second in the 400 meter. Abigail Hibbs earned first in the 3200-meter run with a time of 10:52.43.

    Champlin Park earned first in the girls 4x100-meter relay with a time of 50.19. They also earned first in the 4x200 relay with a time of 1:47.58.

    Michael Bruggers earned second in the boys shot put and boys discuss. Zachary Mayo, Grayson Wolf, and Tyree Washington earned third through fifth in boys pole vault. Thenic Yantambwe earned first in boys long jump with a distance of 20-6.

    Chinonyelum Obinwa and Thenic Yantambwe earned first and second in the triple jump for Champlin Park.

    The Rebels went on to place first in the boys varsity events with 100 points and second in the girls events with 54 points.
