ALBANY - On most occasions, putting together a nine-run outing is enough to win a team the game. Unfortunately for the Alexander baseball team, its nine runs weren’t enough to overcome a slow start.

Alexander (2-4) exploded for the nine runs on eight hits, but their comeback fell short with Meigs doubling them up at the plate with 16 hits for the Mauraders.

Stanley Viny was able to put together a multi-hit outing for the Spartans, finishing 2-4 while scoring two runs. A collection of other players recorded hits for Alexander, including Trent Schaad, Camron Oberholzer, Jordan Schulz, Jared Truax, Sam Ohms and Noah Ray. Ray recorded a team-high two RBIs while Ohms and Schulz each added one apiece.

Jackson Jordan got the start on the mound, but was chased early after allowing six early runs. He allowed six hits and gave up five walks in just an inning and two thirds. Truax threw four innings of relief, allowing four earned runs on six hits while walking three and striking out two. Stanley Viny allowed two runs on four hits, before Schaad finished the game with a scoreless inning and three strikeouts.

Meigs (4-5) were wildly productive at the dish, with six different players recording multi-hit games. Braden Hawley, Jake Martin and Mason Qualls each finished with three hits on the day, with Martin notching three RBIs and Qualls recording four of his own. Hunter Smith, Addison Whitlach and Brodie Fackler each grabbed two hits apiece, with Whitlach and Fackler each plating two runners. Smith, Hawley and Martin all scored four runs themselves for the Mauraders.

Ashton Newsome took the ball for Meigs, tossing three innings of three hit ball as he gave up one earned run. He also walked four batters while striking out four. Lincoln Thomas then came in for four innings of relief, allowing one earned run on five hits while racking up seven strikeouts.

Meigs jumped out to an early 10-0 lead, scoring at least three runs in each of the first three innings.

Alexander finally got on the board in the bottom of the third, scoring two on passed balls before a single from Ohms plated a runner to make it 10-3.

They kept it going in the following inning, scoring off an error before adding another off a Schulz single. They were able to score two more off another error, before a single from Ray brought two more Spartans across, cutting the lead to 10-9.

After a completely scoreless fifth inning, Meigs got back on the scoreboard with a one-run single from Martin, before three more runs came across after a single from Qualls and an Alexander throwing error.

Now leading 14-9, the Marauders got one more across after a Fackler RBI single, extending their lead to six runs with just one inning left to play.

Meigs was able to hold Alexander scoreless for the rest of the outing, with two quick innings cementing their victory and holding off any hope of a Spartan comeback.
