POCATELLO — Several new burgeoning businesses have graced the Historic Downtown Pocatello area as spring and summer events begin to arrive in the Gate City.

Spring in Idaho is beginning to flourish, bringing plenty of exciting new businesses, old favorites, enticing events and an abundance of fun for residents of all ages.

Stephanie Palagi, the president and CEO of Historic Downtown Pocatello, may be the heartbeat of the downtown revitalization and is certainly a core aspect of its success. As its popularity increases, more businesses are drawn to the vintage vestiges of downtown's splendor and its ability to draw in troves of local residents to its sidewalks and byways.

“We usually see an uptick in new businesses in the spring each year,” Palagi said. “We're excited to see some of the business expansion that's happening this spring along with new businesses that are opening. It’s a great time to be a business owner in downtown.”

A new gift shop boutique business will be opening in the Spaulding Building on the 100 block of North Arthur Avenue in a space that has been empty for some time, providing a new opportunity to explore new places in the downtown area.

Mainstay tattoo shop Salty’s has moved in next to popular downtown fixture Enchantments and will host a new piercing business called Meraki Body Jewelry within its doors. Silversmith Gaia’s Garden of Divinity, which is housed within Enchantments, will be hosting several workshops for residents interested in crafting their own jewelry and rings.

Fisher’s Technology is also moving in the historic district, opening a sales office in the Pocatello-Chubbuck Chamber of Commerce building, located at 324 S. Main St.

Fans of the former eatery Villano’s will be pleased to know that Lisa Villano will be curating some of her favorite cuisine for The Office Bar and Grill, located at 251 E. Center St., adding exciting flavors and new, compelling dishes to its menu.

From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 27, the Portneuf Environmental Fair will kick off the spring events, with the return of the Portneuf Valley Farmer’s Market just around the corner. Hosted at Lookout Point and returning on Saturday, May 4, the popular market provides residents with deliciously fresh produce available through the efforts of local farmers and growers.

The ever popular Revive @ 5 will coincide with the upcoming Meadowlark Music Fest, set for June. Meadowlark Music Fest, which is in its second year, is returning with more bands, more music and more passion as the summer kicks into high gear. First Friday Art Walk will also see the return of the Metaphysical Market, which sells oddities and eclectic collections from various artists and vendors.

“We continue to host the monthly First Friday Art Walk and we have the art fest coming on June 22,” Palagi said. “We have so many events, we have an entire event calendar just full of activities happening downtown all summer long.”

Palagi continued, “We're still adding more and more to the calendar. We have a yoga instructor that is going to be hosting yoga at the park the first and third Sundays of the month beginning in May through the month of September from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and it will be free.”

As the spring and summer months are finally upon the citizens of the Gate City, there is a sense of renewal that only days filled with sunshine can bring. Over the next few months, the revitalized populace of Pocatello will be returning to the streets of downtown, filling them with love and laughter.

“My job is to bring people downtown, whether that's through new businesses or through activities or through special events,” Palagi said. “Downtown traffic is important and we've got great foot traffic. We have a wonderful collection of businesses. We have a lineup of spring, summer and fall events. It's a great time to be downtown whether you're a business owner, a resident or a visitor.”
