Garrett Balen Scoping Spring Backcountry Lines in the Sierra Nevadas

Spring skiing is one of the best forms of skiing, I know some of you would agree with me. The snow is settled, the days are long, and there’s tons of backcountry to be explored.

Moment Skis freeride skier, Garrett Balen, is already embracing it from somewhere in the Sierra Nevadas.

Today he posted a rowdy, steep line in some perfect spring backcountry conditions.

Some great turns there with a casual air at the bottom. It looks steep from the Gopro head mount POV, so I couldn’t imagine what it looked like in real life.

Balen is an Alaskan Native who fights fire in the summer and wrangles big mountain lines in the winter. He’s no stranger to backcountry lines and gnarly terrain.
