    Track and field: Lodi sweeps at Westfield meet

    It was a clean sweep for the Lodi boys’ and girls’ track and field teams at the Westfield Verle Clark Invitational on Friday, April 12.

    The Blue Devil boys’ won the nine-team meet with 210 points, topping a field that included Poynette (113.5), Westfield/Monticello (86), Reedsburg (81.5), Wautoma (66.5), Nekoosa (48), Adams-Friendship (33), Wild Rose (31.5) and Almond-Bancroft (eight).

    As for the Lodi girls, they won by 37 points, racking up 134 points to place first. Teams finishing behind the Blue Devils were Poynette (97), Wautoma (93), Reedsburg (89), Wild Rose (82), Westfield/Monticello (78), Adams-Friendship (32) and Nekoosa (19).

    Zach Nyquist won both hurdles events, while Gavin Sargeant took first in the long jump and triple jump to lead the Blue Devil boys. Sargeant leaped 41-9 to win the triple jump and went 20-10 to top the field in the long jump, with teammate Jacobo Castillo-Rosales placing second by going 19-2.

    In the 110 hurdles, Nyquist cruised to victory in 15.74. Nyquist and Brody Ripp took the top two spots in the 300 hurdles, with Nyquist winning in 42.47 and Ripp taking second in 43.82. Noah Houdek raced to first in the 200 dash in 23.23, as Ben Brisky took third in the 400 run in 58.87 and Walter Beld did likewise in the 800, finishing in 2:11.42.

    Roger Melland was first in the 3,200 run, hitting the tape at 11:22.95.

    Lodi also won both the 1,600 and 800 relays, as the quartet of Ripp, Sawyer Baron, Houdek and Jack Bozacki placed first in the 800 relay in 1:36.59. Beld, Houdek, Ripp and Nyquist finished first in the 1,600 relay in 3:39.86.

    Lodi placed two throwers in the top three for the shot put, as Henry Koeppen topped the field with a throw of 46-1 and Josh Klann was third with his throw of 44-4.5. Klann (123-5) and Koeppen (118-10) placed third and fourth, respectively, in the discus. Lucas Thistle was third in the high jump (4-8).

    To round out the field events for Lodi, Ben Skellenger (11-6) and Everett Clemens (10-0) placed first and second, respectively, in the pole vault.

    GirlsFour first-place finishes paced Lodi in the girls’ meet.

    Ryle Wilcox won the 110 hurdles (16.84), as Dakota Pierquet took first in the 1,600 run (6:15.06) and Izzy Bahe topped the field in the discus (115-1), with Olivia Heyroth clearing 4-10 to win the high jump.

    Mikayla Dachel was fourth in the discus (86-1) to help the cause, while Bahe placed second in the shot put (35-4) and Brooke Endres was third in the 1,600 run (6:37.76) and the 3,200 run (13:59.45).

    Karin Robinson raced to fifth in the 100 dash (13.83), as Wilcox also took second in the pole vault (8-6), Heyroth was runner-up in the triple jump (31-10) and Natalie Kelley was fourth in the long jump (14-0.5).
